Sorry for the lack of posts. We’ve been a little busy.
Spent our first night the Saturday before last. We moved the large stuff out of our tiny apartment into the h
ouse on Saturday evening; then on Sunday the Reynolds crew arrived to help load the storage unit into the truck and into the house. It took two trips, but other than some front yard “damage”, some sore muscles and bruises every thing went smooth.
Who could have imagined a 10′ x 25′ storage unit could almost fill a whole house.
There are still things that need to be done around the house but that list is getting smaller.
We’re working on the basement apartment so we can get that rented asap.
There are just a few things left to do. We should have a water heater by monday so the house will be liveable. Other than that the last major thing is the kitchen counter. Oh, and a thorough cleaning!
We’ll probably be moving in sometime this week.
Here are some pics. Be sure to click on the 2 at the bottom of the post to see the second part of the gallery.
The range and range hood went in sometime today or yesterday. The “feature wall” is underway. The basement apartment and out side of the basement are drywalled and at least one coat of mud. Here are the pics.
There is a long hallway wall on the second floor that wraps around the large opening in the front hall and then forms the bulkhead on the first floor that runs from front to back and across the top of the kitchen. We were going to do some form of texture, stone or plaster, but for cost savings we decided to paint it. We are going to use Ralph Lauren RiverRock.
I’ve used this paint in the past and it can be finicky to apply. The painter seems to have struggled with it so I made a little video of myself painting the bedroom wall. If anybody uses this stuff – if you can find it – the key is random strokes!
Note: I stopped the camera while the first coat was drying. But after the second coat I take the tape off while the paint is wet. I find it is less likely to peel the paint if you do it immediately versus waiting for the paint to dry.
